As Controller, Shelley Smitherman guides strategic financial decisions at Brexton and its 24+ related partnerships and subsidiaries. Leading the finance team, Shelley is responsible for all of the company’s financial functions including accounting, budgeting, insurance, monthly close, payroll, reporting, tax and treasury management. She is a member of Brexton’s Leadership Team and helps to develop and implement organizational policies and strategies. 

 

Shelley is a graduate of Franklin University with a B.A. in Accounting. She became part of the Brexton team in April of 2017. Prior to joining Brexton, she was the Corporate Accounting Manager for a leading national third-party administrator of Retirement Plans. As such, her team was responsible for the financials of the company’s 27 nationwide subsidiaries. Shelley also has experience in the insurance industry where she was an Accountant for the only nonprofit, mutual CO-OP created to offer affordable insurance in Ohio. She has real estate experience and was a licensed sales agent in the central Ohio market.

 

In her spare time, Shelley enjoys spending time with family and friends, renovating homes and reading. She is the mother of four children and the proud Mimi of two grandsons. Shelley resides in Marysville with her two youngest children.
